Eight years after Henry Madison’s conviction was overturned the Criminal Justice System continues to have their feet on his neck! His mother Wanda disconnected the Zoom call from Henry’s expungement hearing stunned because the judge DENIED his request, going against the agreement he made with the State in the plea deal Henry's attorney coerced him into accepting. Wanda is fed up with the bureaucratic bullsh*t Henry has had to endure since his conviction was overturned and vowed to get his name cleared. If they think for one minute the “convicted felon” stigma will be associated with my son’s name the rest of his life for something he didn’t do they got another thing coming. I will take it all the way to the Supreme Court if I have to, Wanda thought, getting up from her desk. She could see the disappointment in Henry’s eyes as she entered the kitchen where he was seated with his head down. “No matter what it looks like,” she whispered, hugging his neck tightly, “Today’s denial is just another delay, and a delay is not a denial! God has the final say.” Henry sat motionless in the chair without responding as Wanda walked back to her office fighting back tears. “They’ve got the Wrong son but the Right mother,” she mumbled, closing her office door.
These are the Stories of Survival written by five Queen Mothers who were entangled in the Criminal Justice System through wrongful incarceration; extortion; the death of two children at once; manipulated into giving police permission to search her son's room without a warrant.
